Dr. Liew is a specialist in cardiology, in particular the field of heart rhythm problems.
He setup the first 3D mapping system in the private sector in Singapore to treat complex cardiac arrhythmias and has mentored many cardiologists in the UK, Singapore and the surrounding region in complex ablation procedures. He also performed the first cryoballoon catheter ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation in the private sector in Singapore.
As well as doing catheter ablation procedures for cardiac arrhythmias, Dr. Liew is also a fully trained cardiac device implantation specialist, and inserts cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices. A keen health educator, Dr. Liew continues to give talks at regional and international meetings on heart disease and heart rhythm disorders.

How do we screen for arrhythmias?
Dr. Reginald Liew specialises in the management of patients with palpitations and cardiac arrhythmias. Screening tests for arrhythmias include tests to detect and identify the type of arrhythmia and those to look for other cardiac problems that may give rise to arrhythmias.
Screening tests include:
- ECG - simple test done in clinic to provide baseline information on the heart rhythm and general “health” of the heart
- Cardiac monitors - these may be in the form of a continuous heart monitor (which patients can wear from one to seven days) or cardiac event recorders (which patients can use to record their rhythm at the time they feel palpitations)
- Treadmill Test – to detect arrhythmias induced by exercise or stress and assess for coronary artery disease
- Echocardiogram – ultrasound scan of the heart to provide information on the heart structure and function
- Electrophysiology Study – a keyhole procedure to accurately identify the location and type of arrhythmia. The procedure is often combined with catheter ablation, which allows the arrhythmia to be treated and often cured, during the same procedure
What should I expect on my first consultation?
Do remember to bring all your scans/reports if you have any! When you first see Dr Liew, he will discuss your medical history and the symptoms/conditions that you’re currently facing. A further detailed check may then be recommended based on the symptoms that you face. A personalized treatment plan will then be presented to you, so that you can make the most informed decision on the steps moving forward.
